October Rosary (Days 22-24)
October 22, 2024
Fr. John Colacino C.PP.S.
Day 22

Entombed

Rediscover the Rosary in the light of Scripture, in harmony with the Liturgy, and in the context of your daily lives. (Pope St. John Paul II)

Our Father…

1
) After these things, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, though a secret one because of his fear of the Jews, asked Pilate to let him take away the body of Jesus. (John 19:38) Hail Mary (and after each verse)
2
) Nicodemus, who had at first come to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, weighing about a hundred pounds. (John 19:39)
3
) Now there was a garden in the place where he was crucified, and in the garden there was a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid. And so, because it was the Jewish day of Preparation, and the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there. (John 19:41-42)
4
) I am counted among those who go down to the Pit; I am like those who have no help, like those forsaken among the dead. (Ps. 88:4)
5
) You have put me in the depths of the Pit, in the regions dark and deep. Your wrath lies heavy upon me, and you overwhelm me with all your waves. (Ps. 88:6-7)
6
) For the waves of death encompassed me, the torrents of perdition assailed me; the cords of Sheol entangled me, the snares of death confronted me. (2 Sam. 22:4-6)
7
) Turn, O LORD, save my life; deliver me for the sake of your steadfast love. For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who can give you praise? (Ps. 6:4-5)
8
) O LORD, you brought up my soul from Sheol, restored me to life from among those gone down to the Pit. (Ps. 30:3)
9
) He has redeemed my soul from going down to the Pit, and my life shall see the light. God indeed does all these things, twice, three times, with mortals, to bring back their souls from the Pit, so that they may see the light of life. (Job 33:28-30)
10
) Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit, in which also he went and made a proclamation to the spirits in prison, who in former times did not obey. (1 Pet. 3:18-20)

Glory be to the Father….

Collect

All-holy Father, you chose the Easter Mystery
as the way of our salvation;
grant that we, whom Jesus entrusted from the Cross
to his Virgin Mother,
may be numbered among your adopted children.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

(Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary; The Commending of the Blessed Virgin Mary)

Day 23

Resurrection

The Rosary, when it is prayed in an authentic way, not mechanical and superficial but profoundly, it brings, in fact, peace and reconciliation.
(Pope Benedict XVI)

Our Father….

1) Bless the LORD, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits--who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the Pit. (Ps. 103:2) Hail Mary (and after each verse)
2) When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. (Mark 16:1)
3) And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” (Mark 16:2-3)
4) When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. (Mark 16:4-5)
5) But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him.” (Mark 16:6)
6) Now after he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. (Mark 16:9)
7) She went out and told those who had been with him, while they were mourning and weeping. But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it. (Mark 16:10-11)
8) After this he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them. (Mark 16:12-13)
9) Later he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were sitting at the table; and he upbraided them for their lack of faith and stubbornness, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. (Mark 16:14)
10) And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation. The one who believes and is baptized will be saved; but the one who does not believe will be condemned. (Mark 16:15-16)

Glory be to the Father….

Collect

O God, who have been pleased to gladden the world
by the Resurrection of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
grant, we pray,
that through his Mother, the Virgin Mary,
we may receive the joys of everlasting life.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.

(Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary; Mary and the Resurrection of the Lord)

Day 24

Ascension

The Rosary is an excellent prayer, but the faithful should feel serenely free in its regard. They should be drawn to its calm recitation by its intrinsic appeal. (Pope St. Paul VI)

Our Father….

After his suffering Jesus presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. (Acts 1:3). Hail Mary (and after each verse)

While staying with them, he ordered them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. (Acts 1:4)

So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?” He replied, “It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. (Acts 1:6-7)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. (Acts 1:9)

While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. (Acts 1:10)

They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11)

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day’s journey away. (Acts 1:12)

No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. (John 3:13-15)

Therefore it is said, “When he ascended on high he made captivity itself a captive; he gave gifts to his people.” (Eph. 4:8)

Glory be to the Father….

Collect

Lord our God,
as the Blessed Virgin was at prayer with the Apostles
you poured out on her in abundamce
the gifts of the Holy Spirit;
grant through her intercession
that we too, being filled with the same Spirit,
may persevere with one mind in prayer
and bring to the world around us
the Good News of salvation.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

(Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary; Our Lady of the Cenacle)
