Holy Hour for Peace

“Your faith matters. Your prayers matter. Your acts of love and works of justice matter….
Let us pray for reconciliation where there is division,
for justice where there are violations of fundamental rights,
and for consolation for all who feel overwhelmed by fear or loss.”  [Archbishop Paul Coakley]

[Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament]

Opening Hymn

Be still, for the presence of the Lord, The Holy One, is here. Come bow before him now, with reverence and fear. In him no sin is found, we stand on holy ground.

Be still for the presence of the Lord, The Holy One, is here. Be still for the glory of the Lord is shining all around. He burns with holy fire, with splendour he is crowned.   How awesome is the sight, our radiant King of light!

Be still for the glory of the Lord is shining all around Be still for the power of the Lord is moving in this place. He comes to cleanse and heal, to minister his grace. No work too hard for him, in faith, receive from him. Be still for the power of the Lord is moving in this place.

Opening Litany (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America)

Christ sets before us this day life and death and calls for us to choose life that we and our children may live.   R/.  We accept life, so teach us to live.

Christ sets before us this day the challenge to seek peace and to pursue it.  R/.  We accept the challenge of peace, so enable us to pursue it.

Christ sets before us this day the call to be peacemakers;  R/. to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to a suffering world.

We gather to embody God’s love and desire for peace for all people;  R/. to hear and give voice to creation’s cry for justice and peace.

We gather to name and confront the influence of evil within and among us;  R/. to repent of our silence and complicity with the powers of chaos and death.

We gather to join with the oppressed and troubled people of the world in the struggle for liberation and peace;  R/. to work for justice, healing and wholeness of life.

We gather to embrace the unity of God’s people and Christ’s church;  R/. to make peace a reality.

Opening Prayer (ICEL; 1998)

O God,
your Son revealed
that peacemakers will be called your children;
grant that we may tirelessly promote the justice
that alone ensures genuine and lasting peace.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. Amen.
