Fourth Marian Mystery: Presentation of Mary in the Temple (Oct 4)

My dove, my undefiled, is but one; she is the only one of her mother; she is the choice one of her that bore her.  (Song 6:9a)

We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts; what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for? (Song 7:8)

If she be a wall, we will build upon her a turret of silver; and if she be a door, we will enclose her with boards of cedar. (Song 7:9)

Listen, daughter, consider, and turn your ear. Forget your own people, and also your father’s house. (Ps 45:10)

So the king will desire your beauty, honor him, for he is your lord. (Ps 45:11)

She shall be led to the king in embroidered work. The virgins, her companions who follow her, shall be brought to you. (Ps 45:14)

He created me from the beginning before the world, and I shall never fail. In the holy tabernacle I served before him; and so was I established in Sion. (Sir 24:9-10)

Likewise in the beloved city he gave me rest, and in Jerusalem was my power. And I took root in an honourable people, even in the portion of the Lord's inheritance. (Sir 24:11-12)

I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. (Rom 12:1)

Whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother. (Mt 12:50)
O GOD,
who granted that blessed Mary Ever-Virgin,
the dwelling-place of your Holy Spirit,
should be presented in the Temple:
we ask that by her intercession we may be found worthy
to be presented to you in the temple of your glory.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.  Amen. (Trad. Anglican)

Fifth Marian Mystery: Espousals of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Oct 5)

The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man whose name was Joseph, of David’s house. (Lk 1:26)

Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ. (Mt 1:16)

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord. My soul will be joyful in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation. (Is 61:10a)

He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. (Is 61:10b)

Go forth, O ye daughters of Zion, and gaze upon king Solomon, even upon the crown wherewith his mother hath crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart. (Song 3:11)

A garden shut up is my sister, my bride; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed. (Song 4:12)

Who can find a worthy woman?  For her value is far above rubies. (Prov 31:10)

The heart of her husband trusts in her. He shall have no lack of gain. (Prov 31:11)

She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. (Prov 31:12)

Her husband is respected in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. (Prov 31:23)

Holy Father
who joined together by a virginal bond
the glorious Mother of your Son
and the just man, Saint Joseph,
that they might be faithful cooperators
in the mystery of the Word Incarnate,
grant, we pray,
that we who are united with you by the bond of baptism
may live more intimately our union with Christ
and may walk more joyfully in the way of love.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, forever and ever. Amen.
(Feast of the Espousals of the BVM; Oblates of St. Joseph)
