Stations of the Cross (XII-XIV)
March 20, 2026
Fr. John Colacino C.PP.S.

Twelfth Station:
 Jesus dies on the cross

Adoramus te, Christe, et benedicimus tibi, quia per sanctam crucem tuam redemisti mundum.
We adore Thee, O Christ, And we bless Thee, Who by Thy Holy Cross hath redeemed the world.

Psalm 69:22-18

 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
    Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?
 O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer,
    and by night, but I find no rest.

 Yet you are holy,
    enthroned on the praises[a] of Israel.
 In you our fathers trusted;
    they trusted, and you delivered them.
 To you they cried and were rescued;
    in you they trusted and were not put to shame.

 But I am a worm and not a man,
    scorned by mankind and despised by the people.
 All who see me mock me;
    they make mouths at me; they wag their heads;
 “He trusts in the Lord; let him deliver him;
    let him rescue him, for he delights in him!”

Collect

Lifted up among us, O God,
is Jesus the crucified:
sign of your steadfast love
and pledge of your will to save.
To those who look upon the cross with faith
grant healing of soul
and life eternal.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. Amen. (ICEL; 1998)

Thirteenth Station: Jesus is taken down from the cross (Jn 19: 38)

Adoramus te, Christe, et benedicimus tibi, quia per sanctam crucem tuam redemisti mundum.
We adore Thee, O Christ, And we bless Thee, Who by Thy Holy Cross hath redeemed the world.

Psalm 88:1-9

Lord, you are the God who saves me;
    day and night I cry out to you.
 May my prayer come before you;
    turn your ear to my cry.

 I am overwhelmed with troubles
    and my life draws near to death.
 I am counted among those who go down to the pit;
    I am like one without strength.
 I am set apart with the dead,
    like the slain who lie in the grave,
whom you remember no more,
    who are cut off from your care.

 You have put me in the lowest pit,
    in the darkest depths.
 Your wrath lies heavily on me;
    you have overwhelmed me with all your waves.[d]
 You have taken from me my closest friends
    and have made me repulsive to them.
I am confined and cannot escape;
     my eyes are dim with grief.

Collect

Eternal God,
as we are baptized into the death of Jesus Christ,
so give us the grace of repentance
that we may pass through the grave with him
and be born again to eternal life.
For he is the One
who was crucified, dead, and buried,
and rose again for us,
Jesus our Savior. Amen. (BCW)

Fourteenth Station: Jesus is laid in the tomb

Adoramus te, Christe, et benedicimus tibi, quia per sanctam crucem tuam redemisti mundum.
We adore Thee, O Christ, And we bless Thee, Who by Thy Holy Cross hath redeemed the world.

I call to you, Lord, every day;
    I spread out my hands to you.
 Do you show your wonders to the dead?
    Do their spirits rise up and praise you?
 Is your love declared in the grave,
    your faithfulness in Destruction?
 Are your wonders known in the place of darkness,
    or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion?

 But I cry to you for help, Lord;
    in the morning my prayer comes before you.
 Why, Lord, do you reject me
    and hide your face from me?

 From my youth I have suffered and been close to death;
    I have borne your terrors and am in despair.
 Your wrath has swept over me;
    your terrors have destroyed me.
 All day long they surround me like a flood;
    they have completely engulfed me.
 You have taken from me friend and neighbor—
    darkness is my closest friend.

Collect

O God, Creator of heaven and earth:  Grant that, as the
crucified body of your dear Son was laid in the tomb and
rested on this holy Sabbath, so we may await with him the
coming of the third day, and rise with him to newness of life;
who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, for ever and ever. Amen. (ECUSA)

[Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament]

In remembrance of Me
This is My body
In remembrance of Me
This is My blood
Whoever eats of this bread
And drinks this cup of salvation
Shall not die but shall live
Shall live forever

For His flesh is real food
And His blood we'll drink
Those who receive shall never die
But live forever
Strengthened by Heavenly bread
Strengthened by bread of angels
Your cup of salvation brings
Come all and receive

Come humbly bow and adore
Before the mystery of mysteries
Under creation's form
Yet the creator of all
Within flesh yet not enclosed
Incarnate and transcendent
Consumed by all yet not destroyed
Received by all and the Lord

Closing Hymn

O sacred head, sore wounded, Defiled and put to scorn; O kingly head, surrounded With mocking crown of thorn: What sorrow mars Thy grandeur? Can death Thy bloom deflow’r? O countenance whose splendor The hosts of heav’en adore!

In Thy most bitter passion My heart to share doth cry, With Thee for my salvation Upon the cross to die. Ah, keep my heart thus moved To stand Thy cross beneath, To mourn Thee, well-beloved, Yet thank Thee for Thy death.

My days are few, O fail not, With Thine immortal pow’r, To hold me that I quail not In death’s most fearful hour; That I may fight befriended, And see in my last strife To me Thine arms extended Upon the cross of life.
