Stations of the Cross (VI-VIII)
March 20, 2026
Fr. John Colacino C.PP.S.

Sixth Station:
 Veronica wipes the face of Jesus

Adoramus te, Christe, et benedicimus tibi, quia per sanctam crucem tuam redemisti mundum.
We adore Thee, O Christ, And we bless Thee, Who by Thy Holy Cross hath redeemed the world.

Psalm 69:7-13

For it is for your sake that I have borne reproach,
    that dishonor has covered my face.
I have become a stranger to my brothers,
    an alien to my mother’s sons.
For zeal for your house has consumed me,
    and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.
 When I wept and humbled[b] my soul with fasting,
    it became my reproach.
 When I made sackcloth my clothing,
    I became a byword to them.
 I am the talk of those who sit in the gate,
    and the drunkards make songs about me.
 But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord.
    At an acceptable time, O God,
    in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.

Collect

O God, who willed that your only-begotten Son should become man, and show us in his human nature a perfect image of your divinity,  grant, we beseech you, that by venerating the image of his Holy Face  we may be united with him in the mysteries of his Passion and Death, and so come to contemplate forever his glorious Face in the joy of the resurrection.   Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,  who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,  God, forever and ever. Amen. (Votive Mass of the Holy Face)

Seventh Station: Jesus falls the second time

Adoramus te, Christe, et benedicimus tibi, quia per sanctam crucem tuam redemisti mundum.
We adore Thee, O Christ, And we bless Thee, Who by Thy Holy Cross hath redeemed the world.

Psalm 35:1-10

Contend, O LORD, with my contenders;
fight those who fight me.
Take up your buckler and shield;
arise in my defense.
Take up the javelin and the spear
against those who pursue me.
Say to my soul, “I am your salvation.”
Let those who seek my life
be shamed and disgraced.
Let those who plan evil against me
be routed in confusion.
Let them be like chaff before the wind;
let the LORDʼs angel trip them up.
Let their path be slippery and dark;
let the LORDʼs angel pursue them.
Unprovoked, they have hidden a net for me;
they have dug a pit for me.
Let ruin fall upon them,
and take them by surprise.
Let them be caught in the net they have hidden;
let them fall in their own pit.
Then my soul shall rejoice in the LORD,
and exult in his salvation.
All my bones will say,
“LORD, who is like you
who rescue the weak from the strong
and the poor from the oppressor?”

Collect

Almighty God
whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain,
and entered not into glory before he was crucified:
mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross,
may find it none other than the way of life and peace;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen. (Church of England)

Eighth Station: Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem

Adoramus te, Christe, et benedicimus tibi, quia per sanctam crucem tuam redemisti mundum.
We adore Thee, O Christ, And we bless Thee, Who by Thy Holy Cross hath redeemed the world.

Psalm 69:30-37

As for me in my poverty and pain,
let your salvation, O God, raise me up.
Then I will praise Godʼs name with a song;
I will glorify him with thanksgiving:
a gift pleasing God more than oxen,
more than a bull with horns and hoofs.
The poor when they see it will be glad,
and God-seeking hearts will revive;
for the LORD listens to the needy,
and does not spurn his own in their chains.
Let the heavens and the earth give him praise,
the seas and everything that moves in them.
For God will bring salvation to Sion,
and rebuild the cities of Judah,
and they shall dwell there in possession.
The children of his servants shall inherit it;
those who love his name shall dwell there.

Collect

Everlasting God,
in your tender love for the human race
you sent your Son to take our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross.
In your mercy enable us to share in his obedience to your will
and in the glorious victory of his resurrection;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.  Amen. (BCW)
